About SWUPL
Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUPL) is located in Chongqing, a famous historical and cultural city and the only municipality in the central and western regions. It is the earliest institution of higher politics and law established in New China. As a university jointly built by Ministry of Education and Chongqing Government. SWUPL is one of the first national education and cultivation bases for outstanding legal talents, the Ministry of Education's "Collaborative Cultivation and Innovation Base for Foreign Rule of Law Talents", an institution entrusted with the cultivation of Chinese government scholarships for international students, and a university under the project of building the basic capacity of colleges and universities in the central and western parts of the country.
With over 70 years of hard work, SWUPL has formed a multi-disciplinary development mode, focusing on law, coordinated with philosophy, economics, literature, management, engineering, etc. And it has formed a multi-level education pattern from undergraduate to postgraduate, from domestic education to international education. Over the past 70 years, it has trained more than 300,000 talents at all levels and various types for the country. It is the country’s largest institution of law-based personnel. 1 alumnus serves as member of the 20th CPC Central Political Bureau and 7 alumni serve as members or candidates of the 20th CPC Central Committee and Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. More than 100 alumni hold leadership positions above the provincial and ministerial level. There are more than 60 graduates who have served or currently serve as chief justices, first-level or second-level justices, and chief prosecutors.
SWUPL adheres to the international development strategy. Now it has a large number of international exchange and cooperation programs with more than 220 partner universities from over 40 countries, such as U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Thailand, and South Korea and so on. There are two Chinese-foreign cooperative education programs, including the undergraduate law program at Coventry University in the United Kingdom and the Master of Laws Program at Case Western Reserve University in the United States. It is the only university in the western region that undertakes dual-degree programs for Chinese-foreign cooperative education in academic disciplines.
Chongqing, being a strategic city in the southwest of China, is one of the 4 municipalities under the direct administration of the central government with Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin, and the only one in inland China.
As one of the fastest growing cities, it is the economic, financial, scientific and technological innovation, shipping and commercial logistics center in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, a national logistics hub, an important strategic fulcrum for the development of the western region, an important link between the "Belt and Road" and the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and the inland open highland of China.
Chongqing is particular for its beautiful mix of traditions and technologies. There are abundant tourism resources, including the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, the World Cultural Heritage Dazu Rock Carvings, the World Natural Heritage Wulong Karst and Nanchuan Jinfo Mountain.

Entry Requirement
Scholarship Introduction
Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUPL) offers SWUPL President Scholarship to the accepted international students of Bachelor program, Master program, Ph.D program, Chinese language program and exchange program.
The SWUPL President Scholarship for degree programs includes three categories: Category A, B and C.
（1）Doctoral program
Category A : Tuition and accommodation fees are free, with living allowance of 2000 RMB per month (10 months in total)
Category B: Tuition and accommodation fees are free, with living allowance of 1500 RMB per month (10 months in total)
Category C: Tuition and accommodation fees are free, with living allowance of 1000 RMB per month (10 months in total)
（2）Master Program
Category A : Tuition and accommodation fees are free, with living allowance of 1500 RMB per month (10 months in total)
Category B: Tuition and accommodation fees are free, with living allowance of 1000 RMB per month (10 months in total)
Category C: Tuition and accommodation fees are free, with living allowance of 700 RMB per month (10 months in total)
（3）Undergraduate Program
Category A：Tuition and accommodation fees are free, with living allowance of 1000 RMB per month (10 months in total) ;
Category B：Tuition and accommodation fees are free, with living allowance of 700 RMB per month (10 months in total);
Category C：Tuition and accommodation fees are free, no living allowance
Scholarship Eligibility
The applicant shall,
(1) be non-Chinese applicants;
(2) be admitted to or currently study at SWUPL;
(3)not get any other type of scholarship;
(4)have good comprehensive performance at SWUPL;
(5)abide by laws and regulations.
Generally, undergraduate program applicants shall be no more than 30 years old. Master program applicants shall be no more than 40 years old. Doctoral program applicants shall be no more than 50 years old.
Application & Appraisal
Students shall submit application form together with SWUPL application online, and the appraisal result will be sent with admission notice. Annual appraisal for the SWUPL President Scholarship will be held every October. Newly admitted students’ application will be evaluated on the basis of their performance during interview, the language proficiency and so on; students who have been studying at SWUPL for more than one year will be evaluated on the basis of their scores the last year, language proficiency, and comprehensive performance.
